The Russians accepted the United State’s demands of getting rid of the missiles in Cuba and the destruction of the launch camps but had some requests of their own. Russia would agree only if the United States would promise not to invade Cuba while staying out of their government along with getting rid of the missiles the United States has positioned in Turkey facing Russia (this term was secret for more than 25 years). Therefore, both nations agreed to each others demands and began carrying out their promises almost immediately. But, while Russia retrieved their missiles from Cuba, they also “escalated the building of their military arsenal; the missile crisis was over, the arms race was not.” (Cuban Missile Crisis-JFK Library).

Cuban immigration also increased dramatically following the break between the United States and Cuba... many came by boat as seen in the pictures

Unfortunately, there still remains a unsteady relationship between the United States with Russia and Cuba. But, this incident allowed for much of the world to learn how to avoid nuclear warfare as well as understand that nuclear warfare is (unfortunately) the future of wars in the world. One of the initiatives that was taken to avoid a crisis like this from happening again included the installment of a 'Washington-Moscow Hotline' This enabled the United States to call Russia and resolve problems or directly negotiate before conflict gets out of hand (it is still used today!).

In addition, many treaties have been made globally to limit the amount of nuclear weapons created as well as restrictions on their trading and testing. Some of these treaties range from the SALT I and SALT II treaties in the 70’s, to the NEW START treaty in 2010 under president Obama which reduces each nation to 1,550 warheads each. In conclusion, the United States and Russia are still continuing to rebuild their relationship to this day as well as ease the tension established over 55 years ago.

In retrospect, The United States relationship with Cuba has remained stagnant for the last 55 years after all economic and social ties were broken by the Kennedy administration. Over the course of time, Cuba has merely diminished their relationship with the United States rather than make strides to heal it. Up until the death of Fidel Castro in 2016, Cuba had supported terrorists organizations and starved their own people. Some repeals have been enacted in regards to the embargo act by allowing United States Medicine onto the island to support the Cuban people. In 2016, the United States also attempted to relieve some travel restrictions between the United States and Cuba when President Obama visited Cuba. But, even though relations are healing up at a slow rate, a lack of trust still remains and there is still a long time before the United States can see full reconciliation with Cuba.
